Profile of Edmond Burnes

Since 1974

Edmond has been a member of the ADC Fraternity since 1974. He served as ADC’s fourth president from Summer 1976 to Spring 1977. He started his community career service in the Charleston Community and surrounding areas by volunteering to support the Jenkins Orphanage and supported the Fraternity’s Big Brother Program. He currently volunteers with several educational institutions in Beaufort County to support academic improvement, especially in mathematics.

Current Community Involvement: During the previous school year, Edmond served as a mentor and tutor for third, fourth, fifth, seventh, and eighth graders at Broad River Elementary School, Joseph Shanklin Elementary School, and Robert Smalls International Academy in Beaufort County, as well as an ACT tutor for high school juniors and seniors at Ridgeland-Hardeeville High School.  During the summers  of 2018 and 2019, Edmond also tutored youngsters (in mathematics) at Grace Chapel AME’s summer reading program. Currently, he is serving as a mentor and tutor for fourth, fifth, and sixth graders at the same schools mentioned above other than the high school.

Goal: To establish relationships with predominantly Black males to enhance confidence and self-actualization while improving the math skills of youngsters.
