The Alpha Dite Criterion Fraternity was founded in January of 1974, an idea was born to have a black Greek Fraternity on the campus of The Baptist College at Charleston, South Carolina (now Charleston Southern University). The Founders, John Ellis and Willie Brown initially took the idea to the administration for its approval, but it was rejected. The same week that the fraternity idea was rejected it was saved by two men, John Ellis and Willie Brown, transfer students from Palmer College and reborn at The Baptist College.
We are the brothers of the Alpha Dite Criterion Fraternity. The ideals of justice, pride, respect and hard work are still trademarking of the “Men of Distinction.” These are the qualities that led the Alpha Dite Criterion Fraternity to meet its destiny on March 23, 1976, the fraternity received its National Charter. The following members: Herbert A. Johnson, Quintin Doughty, John Coaxum, Stanley Pasley, Reginal Hicks, and Edmond Burnes were elected co-founders of the Alpha Dite Criterion, Inc. A life time membership was given to these men who resided on the Board of Trustees. The dream that started with John Ellis and Willie Brown had faithfully become a reality.
